Walhalla — The City of Walhalla Sanitation Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded both a Solid Waste Grant and Used Oil Recycling Grant from The Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling.

Public Works Chairman Josh Holliday stated that “we are glad to receive the grants that will not only help our City, but will benefit our community and citizens”.

The Solid Waste Grant in the amount of $15,750 will significantly enhance the City’s waste management and recycling efforts. This grant will be allocated towards three key initiatives:
1. Purchasing Containers: The funds will be used to procure new trash and recycling containers, making it easier for residents and visitors to participate in recycling efforts.
2. Public Education: A portion of the grant will be dedicated to public education campaigns aimed at increasing awareness about the importance of recycling and proper waste management.
3. Professional Development: To ensure that the Sanitation Department remains at the forefront of industry best practices, the grant will also support professional development opportunities for staff.

This is a significant step towards our goal of creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly city.”

The Used Oil Recycling Grant, totaling $5,558, will be utilized to enhance the City’s used oil collection program through the purchase of essential equipment, supplies and services.
